This week’s chat focuses on place-based learning, or the idea of “learning locally.” It touches upon a lot of the concepts and ideas shared earlier in the school year during our place-based learning chat with Remi Holden, and shares a few more resources that are homegrown here in Michigan, including the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative. In an era when standards are becoming common across states, and learning objectives are more global in focus, crafting lessons, units, and learning experiences that tap into the rich resources available to us locally are more important than ever. Communities are diverse and full of amazing projects, individuals, and daily realities that help shape our educational experiences. This week’s chat was hosted by Mike Posthumus and Mike Kaechele.
